Philips SHP9500 Detailed Review

Philips SHP9500S

Bottom Line

The Philips SHP9500S Headphones offer well-balanced sound; something you won't find in most headphones on the market.

What We Like
- Comfortable and lightweight
- Mild bass; balanced tones
- Affordable
- Great build quality
What We Don't Like
- Bulky and difficult to carry

If you are looking for premium-quality budget headphones, Philips SHP9500 can be a good option. The headphones are quite comfortable and lightweight. Even though they are not suitable for outdoor usage, they deliver a clear, well-balanced sound, similar to many high-end headphones on the market. Read on to know more about the headphones in our detailed Philips SHP9500 headphones review (we are only going to include relevant information; short and sweet).

As already mentioned above, Philips SHP9500 headphones are very comfortable and feather-weight. The large ear cups gently fit around different ear sizes. The headphones are neither tightly wrapped around your head nor feel too tight. Both the ear cups and the headband are well-padded. However, there’s one thing that are experts did not like much about these headphones, i.e., the headband coating made of a rough fabric that irritates the skin.

Build Quality

If you are not someone who is not extra careful while handling gadgets, the Philips SHP9500 headphones can be a good buy. The headphones are durable and made to last; especially, the headband that is supported by a sleek metal frame and can handle mild physical stress. So, even if you drop the headphones a couple of times, you can rest assured they won’t get damaged.

As you can see in the image, the headphones are not portable. They are pretty massive and you cannot fold them. Moreover, the ear cups also don’t stay flat leaving no scope to save space. The size makes these headphones difficult to carry around, especially if you are a frequent traveler. While you can carry them in your backpack, there’s no way the headphones will fit into your handbag. And, even if you try fitting them, you’ll end up damaging them. Also, our experts were really disappointed as the Philips SHP9500 headphones were not delivered with a case or pouch (something that they requested us to highlight in the Philips SHP9500 headphones review).

The design of the Philips SHP9500 headphones is more practical and simple than attractive. It’s neither too flashy nor too captivating. The headphones are covered in a matte black color combination and decorated using a metal frame. You’ll also find traces of Philips branding on the ear cups and headband.

I experts feel that these well-padded headphones look much better than many other similarly priced headphones on the market. The padding on the ear cups is soft; however, the material used is somewhat not up to the mark when compared to the build quality of the headphones.

The Philips SHP9500 headphones are perfect for casual use. So, if you are an audiophile who lives and breathes music, we recommend you buy these headphones without giving them much thought. However, if you plan to wear these headphones while working out or running, we suggest you look for headphones that are more stable. The Philips SHP9500 headphones are bulky and large, and slip off during physical activities.

Sound Quality

The Philips SHP9500 headphones come with a 50 mm driver that provides crystal clear sound. The bass is not that great. You’ll spot enough presence in the mid-bass; however, if you are a “bass fan” you can check out the best bass headphones of 2020.

The mids are not visible very clearly; nevertheless, they are not fake-sounding or hollow. The treble is right on point; bright and forward. Everything just sounds like how it should. Since the mids are not very overpowering, the vocals sound perfect. The highs are well-placed and the peak frequencies are somewhat tapered for smooth sound delivery.

In simpler words, the headphones sound nice to the ears. The sound-stage is average for over-the-ear headphones. All in all, the sound is pretty decent for the price.

Due to the open-back design, the headphones hardly offer any isolation under 1 KHz frequency. Also, they are loud and the sound leaks between 300 Hz to 20 KHz.

So, if you are looking for neutral headphones with mild bass and balanced tones, you’ll love the Philips SHP9500 headphones.

Final Thoughts

Now that you have read the detailed Philips SHP9500 headphones review, what do you think about the product? Do you agree with our experts or have something different to say?

In our opinion, the Philips SHP9500 headphones can be a great buy for less money. The headphones are good enough for casual or at-home use. Even though they are not fantastic soundwise, they are quality headphones for regular use.
