AKG K240 – A Detailed Review

What’s New?

When the AKG K240 Monitor headphones were launched, users fell in love with the design and performance. Most of you must be wondering what’s new with the AKG K240 studio headphones – well, to begin with, the updated headphones offer a diverse, dynamic range as compared to their predecessors.

Along with this, there is an increase in the level of sensitivity. The reason for the upgrade in the performance is the brand’s incorporation of XXL transducers, resulting in crisp and distinct highs and mid. We were impressed by the great bass response these transducers gave.

The Build and Design

Fortunately, the AKG K240 headphones come with a detachable cable, so for those of you looking for this feature – you’ve found your pick. The single cable lies on one side of the headphones, meaning that you won’t have to be constantly pulling it aside. This cord is composed of oxygen- free copper. You will have optimum signal transfer owing to the 1/8 to 1/4 inch screw on stereo jack adapter.

Moreover, the cable length is approximately 9 to 10 feet long. Luckily, this wire can be easily replaced, so you don’t need to worry about it. Doesn’t that put a smile to your face?

The construction of the headphones is highly sturdy, so that you can use them however you want, without any worry. Of course, don’t be too harsh on them! AKG, unfortunately, doesn’t provide a warranty card with these headphones, so if they’re ever damaged beyond repair, you will have to resort to buying another pair of headphones.

We really liked the gold and black look of the AKG K240. The headphones look sleek and stylish. Thankfully, the headphones aren’t bulky and so won’t there won’t be any parts bulging out when you’re wearing the headphones.

The construction of the headphones is primarily plastic. Irrespective of this, the headphones neither look nor feel cheap, despite their price tag saying so.

Compatibility

We were glad to find that the AKG K240 studio headphones are compatible with different electronic devices like MP3, iPod, DVD, and CD players. If this wasn’t enough, they are also compatible with stereos and other musical devices you may have at home or in the studio, thanks to the 1/4” stereo plug adapter.

Sound Isolation and Sound Quality

Since these pair of headphones are semi-open, you won’t be provided with topmost sound isolation. This means that ambient exterior sound won’t be blocked out. Likewise, sound and music will also ‘seep’ out of the headphones.

On the other hand, due to the semi-open design of the headphones, you will be able to distinctly hear the mid and highs. Having being designed primarily for studio recording, they provide a strong bass but not one that overpowers the music.

Comfort and Aesthetics

A feature our team of experts really appreciated about these headphones was how lightweight they are, both to carry around and when you are wearing them. Usually, we have noticed that the headphones that have brilliant sound quality tend to weigh more. The ear padding on the ear cups is exceptionally soft. Both the cushioning and the headband are made of top quality leather – a design characteristic we seldom find in studio headphones lying in this price range.

The headband fits snug, as per your fit. What that means is, unlike various other headbands which have a locking mechanism for the headphones to fit around your ears, AKG has used springs for the same feature. Owing to this, the headphones fit right the minute you place them on your ears. This is definitely a feature to admire – you no longer will need to spend a few minutes trying to figure out what’s happening with the headband and how to adjust and fasten it.

So, Is It Worth the Investment?

AKG has been in the music industry for many years. It’s a name almost all musicians have heard of and for a good reason, too. While the AKG K240 headphones don’t come with a warranty card, sometimes the name says it all. After all, you’re receiving A-grade headphones at an amazing price. What more could you possibly ask for?

There’s really not much exceptional that has changed from the AKG K240 Monitor headphones except for the price tag, of course. While both provide roughly the same performance and sound quality (with the AKG K240 providing a little more), the AKG K240 is definitely a run for its money.

You’re going to love the fact that you can wear these headphones for hours and get lost in your music. The padding is so soft and comfortable along with a snug fit, and so you’ll barely realize you’re even wearing headphones.

Of course for a pair of headphones ranging in that price region, there will be some features that may not be up to the mark. Make sure to keep in mind which features you would like to have in your headphones and then accordingly select a pair to invest in. After all , no matter what the price tag says – if you don’t like something, why pay for it? We hope you found the AKG K240 review helpful!
