Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro — A DJ’s Delight?
You must be aware of how important headphones are to DJs. DJs use headphones for cueing up music tracks while they do their music routines. Besides that, headphones are also needed while preparing tracks before a DJ performs. As you know, Beyerdynamic is a brand especially known for its super-comfortable range of professional headsets such as Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, among other professional equipment viz. microphones and conference room equipment.
From the buzz around, Beyerdynamic seems to have delivered another comfortable product in their Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro DJ headphones. Our headphones experts got these headphones and put them to the test. To know more about these, read into out Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro review.
Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro seems to shine on the sound quality front. These headphones have a more balanced sound output, unlike their predecessors which had a more thumping bass which led to people complaining about an imbalance between the treble and bass. That seems to have been properly looked after with the DT 990 Pro. The mids are crisp and clear as each instrument and vocal part was individually identifiable, and the treble isn’t too shrill for users to feel itchy in their ears.
Beyerdynamic has ensured users that the stereo sound experience on the DT 990 Pro is unlike any of their previous headphones. The 3D sound experience, as some call it, is essential in the field of music production and mixing. The DT 990 Pro has been built in a way that even picks up the slightest movement of an instrument while music is being played. For the price at which they are being offered, we believe that they do more than enough on the sound quality front.
Comfort and Design
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro headphones come in 2 different colors. One is the full black version which has the back body and black ear cups. The other being black and grey which has a black body and grey ear cups. The full black version of these headphones give a more professional look but for people wanting to use these for a semi-casual use, the latter version would be preferable.
One of the main reasons why these headphones will sell is the comfort factor. Even though the whole built of the headphones is plastic, except for the metal headband, they are sturdy. But, some people may find it displeasing as they aren’t very durable due to the plastic body. They have incredibly comfortable ear cups and are made out of memory foam which is covered in velour, to ensure long hours of music production without any discomfort to your ears.
They are open-back ear cups which helps them become spatial and give a great tonal depth to the sound being played. Though, the open-back design may also lead to noise leakage. Open-back headphones aren’t the greatest choice for noise cancellation headphones. But for DJing, people prefer open back headphones. Why? As it allows DJs to listen to the track being currently played (on the speakers) better, while listening to the incoming track (in the headphones). This makes for a better cueing experience.
Compatibility and Features
Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, much like most headphones come with a 1 m coiled 3.5 mm audio cable. This makes them compatible with most of the computers, televisions, smartphones, etc. A ¼” adapter which may be used with a professional recording or mixing equipment, is provided with the headphones. These headphones have a frequency response of 5 – 35,000 Hz which by all means is great.
They have an impedance level of 250 Ohms which allows them to be pushed to the limit while being used for recording and mixing.
So, Are We Convinced With Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro?
The price at which these are available, we cannot complain much about them. Although the build quality could certainly be better, the comfort level and sound output make up enough for it. So if you want to mix up some music and don’t wish to spend a fortune, go ahead and get them!
