A Detailed Review of the Status Audio CB-1 Headphones

Status Audio CB-1

Bottom Line

Excellent audio and great comfort make the Status Audio CB-1 headphones worth buying.

What We Like
- Stunning sound quality
- Pocket-friendly price
- Wide soundstage
- Good noise isolation
What We Don't Like
- Build quality is average

It’s a fact that you don’t need super expensive headphones to deliver a power-packed performance. The closed-back studio monitor Status Audio CB-1 aren’t the fanciest or most aesthetically appealing professional headphones on the market; they’re sonically perfect and outperform many professional headphones. Excellent audio clubbed with great comfort make the Status Audio CB-1 headphones worth buying.

The Design

The Status Audio CB-1 are stylish and sleek providing tough competition to high-end brands. Although the headphones look rugged, they are primarily constructed using low-quality plastic. However, the headphones feel a little bulky when worn for long periods. Having said that, for such pocket-friendly headphones, you can’t expect to have metal incorporated into the design.

The ear cups are large enough to cover your entire ear and are lined with soft ear padding, primarily composed of thick memory foam and soft leather; so you won’t need to worry about the ear cups getting uncomfortable during lengthy performances. In fact, you can wear them for hours on end – that’s how comfortable they are!

Although we would’ve preferred a metal headband, the plastic one fits quite snugly around the ears and is easily adjustable – really adjustable. You can twist and turn it in any direction without worrying about the headphones snapping into pieces.

You’re definitely going to love the ear cups that are collapsible and foldable, making them the best travel partner. Just pop them into a traveling case and you’re ready to go. Unfortunately, the brand hasn’t provided users with a complimentary carrying pouch, but you can always buy one as per your liking.

Sound and Noise Isolation

The noise isolation is fairly good, although there’s definitely scope for improvement. For a pair of sturdy-looking headphones, we expected better. We that if music is played at high volumes, the sound tends to leak out. One thing we’re sure you’ll be ecstatic about is the crisp detailing. With a vast range of lows and mids, the treble is quite good too. The Status Audio CB-1 excelled in the sound quality for classical and jazz, so if that’s your music genre, you’re in for a treat. However, keep in mind that the sound-stage is mediocre.

If you’re someone who’s been in touch with the music industry, you’ll know the importance of driver sizes – the bigger the size of the drivers, the better the sound dynamics. Trust us, nothing gets better than 50 mm drivers, which have been used in the Status Audio CB-1.

Features

You’re in for a surprise – the Status Audio CB-1 allows users to make phone calls! This feature has rarely been incorporated by many brands, but the few that have tried have failed to deliver a satisfactory performance.

This headphones come with detachable cables. The quality of these cables is one to boast about. The brand has provided users with two cables of varying lengths. One is a 5-feet long straight cable, while the other is coiled. We were pleased with the ruggedness of the jacking ports. Isn’t it annoying when your headphones connection keeps getting loose?

The box the headphones come in includes the Status Audio CB-1 (of course), two detachable cables and a 1/4-inch jack adapter. There are no extra accessories provided by the brand. However, do take note that neither the name of the brand nor the name of the model is visible anywhere on the headphones, unlike many high-end brands. Apart from the golden accents, there isn’t much going on for the headphones, looks-wise.

Our Final Take on Status Audio CB-1

While there are many features the brand could work on, there’s still a lot left to admire for a headphones that are easy on the wallet. In spite of the fact that we would have preferred to have less of a bulky feel and of course, better noise isolation, we believe that the Status Audio CB-1 is definitely a run for its money. It’s pocket-friendly and durable – two of the main aspects everyone looks for. If you’re searching for a pair of headphones that you can wear for long periods, you’re surely going to want to consider investing in this pair. However, as we said, if you’re picky about aesthetics, you might want to reconsider.
